I am thrilled to introduce Ben & Sheri Yau! Ben & Sheri have been dancing, competing and teaching around the world since 1999. These two bring joy and positivity and lots of energy to the dance floor, whether they’re helping you break down a new dance move or kickin’ it up at Third Saturday Swing. You can find out more information about this dynamic duo and their class and events schedule at their website and be sure to take their class during the Dance-a-thon!
1. Tell me a little about yourself as a dancer and teacher.
Both as dancers and teachers our goal is to energize and inspire others and have lots of fun. Dancing is such an awesome way to let loose and have fun and for us that hasn’t changed since day one (sometimes it veers away a little but it always comes back). We didn’t start out with the goal to teach but our friends and acquaintances continued to
ask us for lessons and eventually we realized we really enjoyed it and were quite good at it. And nowadays it just seems to be a natural part of who we are as dancers as it fits in perfectly with our goal to inspire and to continue building the dance community. And of course we find it fun! (both the dancing and the teaching!)
2. What inspired you to get involved with the 24 Hour Dance-a-thon?
It’s a really fun event – even if it weren’t a fundraiser, it’s a 24 hour campout with lots of friends, lots of dancing, lots of non-dancing social interaction, live bands, and a way to basically have a big slumber party with a great community. Add to that now that this is a worthwhile fundraiser and it’s a really fantastic event – why wouldn’t people want to participate?
3. What class will you be teaching during the Dance-a-thon?
We’re planning a Peabody/Swingwalk routine class. We like it because it’s something a bit different, something not seen or taught often, something that can bring variety to your dancing, and something that is a lot of fun!
4. What is your favorite dance move?
Ben: It keeps changing. Right now I’m digging the sailor knot and also digging just doing swingouts
Sheri: I’m not so much into particular moves – I do enjoy being given some freedom so I can be creative to the music. I also enjoy having movements flow nicely and spontaneously. I especially am sensitive to jolting movements right now as we’re 24 weeks pregnant!
5. What is your strategy for staying awake during the 24 hours?
Well, since we are 24 weeks pregnant (yay!) we probably won’t be able to stay up 24 hours – we’ve been told by many members of the Lindy baby Boom that we’ll need our sleep now as we will have many sleepless 24 hours once the baby comes!
6. What is the one dance tip that you think every dancer needs to know?
Remember to dance with happiness and joy!

So cute! Squeeeeze!
