The dance-a-thon is here! Do a reality check sort of like before you go camping. Bring: Several pairs of shoes. Even your coziest shoe might start rubbing wrong after 12 hours. It’s a great idea to change it up and keep those feet fresh. Swimwear because there is no skinny dipping in the jacuzzi or [...]

I am pleased to announce that the one, the only Mr. Maxwell DeMille will be our Master of Ceremonies from 4pm-Midnight on Saturday! Mr. DeMille can be seen every Sunday night at the Cicada Club, one of my favorite venues. Mr. DeMille took time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions for [...]
I am pleased to welcome to the 24 hour Cancer Dance-a-thon Jean Ma and Bromley Palomountain. This dynamic duo competes and teaches in the Bay area, having first met at UC Berkeley. Jean had a strong background in dance, while Bromley was a gymnastic competitor. They bonded over their love of swing dancing and have [...]
Last year I participated in the Lindy Hop for Hope for the first time. There was laughter, tears (of sadness, joy, and oh-my-it’s-6 am and I’m still dancing), and, of course, a whole lot of fun for a great cause. And while all of us are dance crazy, it’s doubtful that you’re dancing for twenty-four hours straight (or as much of it as you can) on a regular basis. Here are some tips to make sure that you come through the Lindy Hop for Hope as healthy and injury-free as you went in.
It is with great pleasure that I introduce Mikey Pedroza. Mikey has been swing dancing since he was 13 years old, masquerading as a student by day and transforming into a swing dancer by night. In his career as a Lindy Hopper and teacher, he brings an unmistakable passion for dance that can’t be missed. [...]
It is with great pleasure that I introduce the fabulous Nikki Marvin. Nikki is a Lindy Hopper, teacher, wife, mother, and, along with Shesha, a founder of the 24 Hour Cancer Dance-a-thon (which I think makes her Mrs. Grand Poobah). This busy lady is also co-owner of the ATOMIC Ballroom, a member of the dance [...]
I am pleased to introduce Shesha Marvin. Shesha is the seer of all seers, the prognosticators of all prognosticators…no, wait, that’s the groundhog…but he, along with his lovely wife, Nikki, is the Grand Poobah, the creator and organizer of the 24 Hour Cancer Dance-a-thon. I participated in the 24 Hour Cancer Dance-a-thon for the first [...]
It is with great pleasure that I introduce Carla Heiney. I met Carla when we both lived in Pennsylvania many moons ago, and, to this day, my former dance partner and I still talk about watching Carla dance. Carla is a world-renowned Lindy Hopper, dance instructor, and choreographer. She was most recently featured on the [...]
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…Stompy Jones! Stompy Jones, the legendary sextet from San Francisco will be dazzling us with their style of rhythm and blues and Louis Prima-inspired good old fashioned rock-n-roll. For all of the dancers who normally spend Saturday nights dancing to Stompy at Disneyland, never fear – Stompy will be [...]
